Salon & Spa Industry Outlook

Things are looking good in the Salon & Spa Industry.

  • According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the number of personal appearance jobs is projected to jump 31 percent between 2008 and 2018. This rate of growth is nearly three times that of total U.S. employment (11 percent) during the same period.
  •  In addition, all of the major personal appearance occupations are projected to post job growth stronger than the overall economy between 2008 and 2018. The number of skin care specialist jobs is projected to jump 51 percent, while hairdresser, hairstylist and cosmetologist positions are expected to increase by31 percent.
  • Careers in the salon and spa industry present opportunities for business ownership. In fact, 61 percent of salons are owned by women, compared to just 30 percent of all businesses in the overall private sector.

  •  Workshop Series

Join us this winter for an exciting line up of educational workshops! Monday nights throughout the year, Schilling-Douglas is proud to host a variety of educational workshop, open to all current students. Topics include; ear piercing, product knowledge, color formulation, permanent makeup, eye lash extensions, make up application, clipper cutting, gel nail applications… just to name a few. Check the events calendar for dates and times.  Hope to see you there!

All workshops are free of charge.

  • 2012 Delaware Practical Exam Dates Announced

 Practical Exams for licensure in the State of Delaware are scheduled for: February 13th, June 18th and November 26st 2012. For detailed information on application deadlines and additional eaxamination information go to www.pcshq.com

  •  Advanced Master Educators

    • A special Congratulations to our Director of Education Susan Wilson, and Instructors Susan Burns and Beverly Murphy. All three were recently recognized for their achievement in earning certification as Advanced Master Educators through Milady's Career Institute Master Educator program.
